At first glance, I thought Tom Ford had gone and cheaped out. Did he use little pieces of pony skin to cover the Natalia bag? Surely, he’s too cunning for that. Instead, this is an ironic patchwork bag (the key word being ironic). It’s a humorous riff because patchwork goes against everything that is sleek, sexy, and glamorous. In a word, everything Tom Ford. But if anyone can make patchwork palatable, it’s my boyfriend, Tom.
This sliced-and-diced pattern of cow-inspired spots possesses abstract appeal, unlike most patchwork bags, which look haphazardly put together. Studied, exacting, and well-thought out, Tom’s version almost reads like a Rubik’s cube or puzzle – one that I want to solve as soon as I can. But this conundrum can only be solved by the purchase of said puzzle. Ahh, Tom, you sneaky, chic devil! I get you.
